History Lesson

Actually, if you make a shirt like this, I would say that you need a history lesson.

1. This flag primarily came into use by racists when the civil right movement in this country finally gained some traction in the 60’s. There was a lot of hooey about states rights and ancestors, but it mainly came into use to fight integration. For example, the flag in SC went up at the State House in 1962.

2. The Confederacy had a series of ill conceived flags that looked much like the U.S. flag and the white flag of surrender, so this is not some great historical heritage.

3. Even if you do want to honor the valor of your ancestors, there are other ways to do it that don’t offend nearly everyone. Many Germans fought bravely in World War 2 and were not all Aryan bullshit spouting lowlifes, but we don’t honor them by flying Nazi symbols. Look at the statements of the Confederate states when they seceded, the war for them was about white supremacy, not states rights as some would have you believe.

4. I know many people just see the Confederate battle flag of Robert E. Lee’s army as a symbol of Southern culture in a good way. However, the world isn’t just about purpose, and  whether you intend it or not, in that celebration of Southern culture you are offending people that see a racist slavery system and all it entails with that flag.

We have a “free” country and nobody is going into your shop to stop you from printing offensive shirts, but I hope the next time any of you are asked to print the Confederate flag on a shirt that you say, no thanks to that business just like I hope you would refuse to print a swastika.
