Sanmar and Alphabroder Working Together?

I have to say this is unprecedented. Alphabroder and Sanmar issued a joint statement today, I have never seen them cooperate on anything. Also unprecedented is their call for congressional action, I have not ever seen that from shirt distributors in the past 25 years. What they are calling for is for folks to fight a 20% import tax suggested by Republican in Congress. I’m

Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! April 22nd has been the annual day since some folks started it in 1970. After witnessing the terrible Santa Barbara oil spill Senator Gaylord Nelson announced the idea for a “national teach-in on the environment” to the national media. He persuaded Pete McCloskey, a conservation-minded Republican Congressman, to serve as his co-chair; and recruited Denis Hayes from Harvard as national coordinator. Hayes built a

How’s It Printed: Grandwheels Los Angeles

We were asked by SanMar to create and print a design with their new Port & Company® – Essential Pigment-Dyed Tee – PC099.  Distressed graphics printed with discharge ink would always be my first choice when working with pigment-dyed tees as the soft hand and subtle “grunge” is a natural fit for the washed and faded look inherent to the garment.  The only problem with this approach is, depending on the manufacturer’s

Alphabrodek (and rhodes, and imprinted wholesale, and ash city…)

Nobody cares about a little billion dollar merger I guess if Bud can buy Miller for $106,000,000,000 (that’s right billions.) This merger makes Alphabroder/Bodek the undisputed biggest shirt distributor as Alphabroder, Bodek and SanMar were previously the top three. The press reports that the websites will remains

What is a Good Shirt to Print On?

We often get requests to analyze shirts for manufacturers. I can tell you that some folks like Hanes and SanMar actually do care about you printers out there and try to make sure their products can be decorated. They don’t always fully succeed but they are definitely trying hard and often with great results. Other clueless manufacturers seem to just put out fabrics that may

Trends. New Orleans, Nashville and Beyond. A Trip to Simple.

I just spent some time in New Orleans at the Jazz and Heritage Festival with 460,000 other music lovers, most of them wearing t-shirts. Then I was in Nashville at the ISS show with shirt vendors and fellow garment decorators. Add in a few forays into gift shops and airport stores and I have a view of what is going on in t-shirt land. My
